Friends & Family:
Summer is flying by, and new Philville albums, singles, and some gems from the vault are lined up for release!
Wyatt Thomson's debut full-length album on Philville Records, Sad Records & Country Tunes is in production, and the debut title-track is going to be available on all streaming services on August 1st (same night as Wyatt's hometown show at the Sounds Like Summer series at Phoenix Park in Eau Claire). There's a hell of a good lineup on this debut track, featuring Lee Martin from Feeding Leroy on Pedal Steel, Jerod Kaszynski on bass, and yours truly on dobro & harmonica.
Excited to announce that Wyatt is playing his first solo spot at a major regional festival too--catch him at The Great River Folk Festival in La Crosse, WI. on August 23-25
The Driftless Revelers, Live at the Slowpoke Lounge, is now available on 140 Gram vinyl!
This is the first pressing and the first ever vinyl record released by the Driftless Revelers -- subscribers to this blog can pick it up for $30 with free shipping--just add the code: slowpoke at checkout.
This album was recorded in February of 2023 at the iconic Slowpoke Lounge & Cabaret in Spring Green, WI. The live show captures the band at their best with a listening audience and all the stories, riffing, anecdotes, & non-sequitur dialogue you've come to love from these string band weirdos from the fringes of the Driftless & the reservoirs of revelry.
The Driftless Revelers have been crazy busy touring since May, and have performed at some excellent shows at Sol Grass Music Festival, Flat Rock Bluegrass Jamboree, the Midsummer in the Northwoods Bluegrass Festival, and will be back at Mile of Music Festival in Appleton again this year, as well as Pine Camp Music Festival, WHYS Festival, Squashfest, and Barrels & Bluegrass Music Festival. Check out their full tour schedule here to catch a show!
Sugar on the Roof Full Length Album is tracked and being mixed & mastered!
The Sugar on the Roof band returned to Sueño Royale' studios in June to track six more songs for their debut full length Philville Records Album! A great mix of some live recordings and multi-track cuts, this session built on their debut single from 2023, and shows the evolution of the band as well as their songwriting skills on two beautiful waltzes. Stay tuned...digital release will be happening this Autumn! |
Carp Double Live archival release, Mike Mcabee, and Charlie & the Rovenaires!
Incredibly excited to be branching out and both opening the Philville Archives and welcoming the Iowa legend himself, Mike McAbee to the Philville Records roster of artists! We're going through his back catalog (many of which are out of print and never digitally released) and Philville Records will be the new home for all of Mike's prior releases, and hopefully some new work when he has time to record between his touring and fatherly duties. Expect these albums to be appearing streaming services and at Philville Records throughout the fall and winter of 2024 & 2025.
The iconic Carp Double Live record has been hunted down, digitized, and brought back from the dead -- or mostly dead -- as the album cover indicates. This double CD was originally released in 2003 on home made CD's and cases, and has never been put out on streaming services or pressed into non-home burned CD's or vinyl. Considered by (some that remember it) to be an iconic double live recording of a cult band that was ahead of its time, this album captures an Upper Peninsula psycho grass band at their peak. Recorded live at the Village Pub in Marquette around Christmas 2002, it is truly an honor to be the record label to release this relic of Copper Country string band lunacy nearly 22 years after it's unholy birth into this world. The cockpockalypse is nigh!
Another gem from the Upper Peninsula will be released this fall/winter -- the long lost digital master recordings and outtakes from Charlie & the Rovenaires! Featuring Charlie McNerney on pedal steel, Bob Guidebeck on vocals & guitar, and Dan Flesher on double bass and mandolin, this album was only released on cassette, and thanks to some hard work and help from my pal and engineer/producer mentor, Brian Looper Lucas, we were able to hunt down the original DAT tapes, and capture most of the album in higher fidelity than ever before. (Still likely going to release a few of these on Cassette too, but there will be many bonus tracks available digitally ONLY here at Philville Records and at limited locations in Marquette, Michigan & Big Bay, Michigan).
Remember, streaming pays diddly squat--so if you've got a few bucks, buy an album from one of our artists or download their work directly from Philville Records!
...and I've mentioned before--Philville Records is a sole proprietorship. It doesn't get much more "Mom and Pop" shop than this, which means touring, gigging, and hard work go into fronting the expenses for projects like this.
I believe that if you put in the work and put out a quality product, your fans will support you by purchasing your album, or attending your shows. So thanks for factoring that into your decision to pick up any of the albums or downloads on the Philville Records website.
So...if you made it this far, and read all of this newsletter--hot damn! You must really like us AND have an attention span. Congrats. Not something too many folks have these days.
Thanks for tuning in, keep it between the ditches, and rest in power Fraulein Kitzenbauer.
Keep Grinnin'!
